I agree with Arjen's feeling that this is a step backward. I also agree with beno1604 that live binding is nice, but it's not always the best solution. I worked around the issue, but I will miss "<%= this %>" to store references to the model instance.
I looked at the can/observe/elements plugin on github, but I'm currently not using steal, and I notice that isn't included in the 1.1.4 download (even the download builder). Any idea when the next official release will be, and if it will include this plugin?
