It is not hard to implement such things with can.js in many ways such generic jquery plugins were developed because it is not trivial to make everything work smoothly using just jquery. For certain projects you usually need only 20-50% of capabilities of such plugins. So in most cases it is more reasonable to create custom widgets using can.js. Just give it a try.
